The day started super windy with occasional rainy and sleeting spots all day long. Layers were key in keeping comfortable in the ever changing weather.
My tour started off with a bus ride to the Tierra del Fuego National Park. About 10 minutes from Ushuaia is the entrance. Tickets cost 12000 pesos for entering.
As soon as we entered, we saw wild horses. These are horses that originally were brought as domesticated animals, but a few wandered into the park over the years, and now there are herds of wild horses here. The apex predators of the area is a fox.
Here, we started by visiting the end of the world post office. It’s the furthest Southernpost office in the world. Unfortunately for us it was closed.
This is also a spot where people can do several hikes. They looked like they would be great. When I come back next week, I may try to arrange to do at least one.
After 20 minutes here, our group jumped back onto the bus to head to our next destination, which was the visitor center. Another quick stop to use the toliet, grab a snack or souvenir and a 📸 of the lake and mountains.
Several people were not happy as all the groups arrived around the same time, and the quick stop barely let people through the toliet queues. As well as buses many people visited bt taxi. So Cruise ship days are crowded days.
We carried on to the end of route 3 – the road that takes you from the top of Alaska to the Southern tip of Argentina. That would be one long but epic journey.
Here, there is also a small port where we were supposed to hop onto a boat, but the port was closed due to high winds. I walked along a wooden platform path for about 15 minutes to see the scenery.
After the land portion, I rode the bus back to the port to get onto a catamaran to go into the Beagle Channel to see some seals, cormorants, and a lighthouse.
Some timing issues meant our group was the last to arrive back at our cruise ship about 15 minutes late. Luckily, if you book through the cruise, then they have to wait for you.
The tour started at 10 am and we didn’t get back till 4:45 pm so we didn’t get lunch. I went with some friends to an early dinner. As a bonus, we passed by an island that had a large penguin colony on it. My pictures are over pixelated, but one of the science experts let me look through his binoculars.
