So after 18 hours of travel time by plane, I arrived in Argentina at 8:13am local time. I was so tired but glad to get off the plane and get started on holidaying.
We landed almost a full hour early due to awesome tail winds. It also meant it was a little bumpy on that 10-hour flight. Immigration was busy, but the line kept on moving, which was good.
I decided to go with the official airport taxi, which I think was the most expensive way to go. It cost me the equivalent of 32 US$, but Uber would have been around 14,000 pesos, which is about 17 US$.
My poor driver had a heck of a time finding my airbnb address. First, it was written incorrectly by the dispatcher, and then Goggle sent him on a wild goose chase. He finally had to call the owners to figure out where to go.
My phone charging cable decided on the plane to stop working, so my first order of business was to get a new one. My lovely landlady walked me to a store near their place and bought a new one.
I’ve definitely been brushing up on my very rusty and poor Spanish. Since not many English speakers have I encountered. I stopped for lunch at a Peruvian restaurant, Tanta Argentina, by Gaston Acurio. I had a delicious pork loin empanada and juicy mushroom dish.
After lunch, I went exploring the neighborhood. My first impression is that it is like every other big city. A lot of homeless people are sleeping on the sidewalks, but they aren’t begging. Just as many police are visible, particularly in tourist areas.
Surprisingly, for a Saturday, there was a lot closed up, but that meant I could see the graffiti security gates.
Like a lot of other cities, Buenos Aries has its own share of statues litering the greens and parks.
And some gorgeous architecture to admire. I stuck to one area, but within it was the theater district and justice buildings.
One of my favorites, that I stumbled upon, was a Basilica Nuestra Senora de la Piedad.
It was rainy in the morning but clear and hot in the afternoon. Tomorrow, I’ll be hopping on the cruise 🚢. I can’t wait.
