From Liverpool, my crew of 5 (me and my four fellow cast-aways) decided to rent a car and go on a day trip to Northern Wales to check out castles.
Our first adventure was trying to fit inside the rental car. It was called an “SUV”, but it is nothing like it’s full bodied cousins in North America. It took quite a while for us to get buckled into the back seat, but with team work, we did it.

Castle Conwy
Our first castle stop was a harrowing 90-minute journey later. Remember, they drive on the opposite side of the road than in Canada.
Getting close to the town of Conwy, it seems like the castle just magically appears, towering over the roadway.

The village itself is a quaint little spot with plenty of lunch or snack options and shops to pick up a souvenir or two.
Caernarfon Castle

Our second mustn’t-miss castle was at Caernarfon, another 30 minute drive away. This castle was a little pricier at 13.70 pounds, but it did include a museum.

Again, it is a super cute village with loads of shops and cafes.

After the two castles and a late lunch we headed back to Liverpool as the rental needed to be returned by 6pm or we’d be paying for an extra day. We made it back with 15 minutes to spare which was lucky because Darrell, our driver for the day, forgot his phone in the car and had to go back and get shortly after we left the lot.
It was a beautiful day and I really enjoyed it. I do need to make a trip to go back and see the rest of Wales some day.
